Double Degree Program (DDP)

Since April 2022, the Interdisciplinary Japanese Studies Program at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Niigata University, has been implementing a Double Degree Program (DDP) with overseas partner universities to facilitate meaningful co-learning with international students.

What is DDP?

DDP is a program which students are enrolled at both home and partner universities as degree-seeking students and obtain a Bachelor’s degree from each university upon fulfilling the completion requirements.

This program goes one step further than conventional study abroad programs, which focus on imparting foreign language skills, as its purpose is to enable students to study their specialized areas in a foreign language at the partner university and to obtain a degree (bachelor’s degree) equivalent to that of their home university.

What you can learn in the Interdisciplinary Japanese Studies Program

The Interdisciplinary Japanese Studies Program at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, which implements the DDP at undergraduate level, offers a wide variety of courses covering each student’s interests, including political history, history of social thought, global history, history of religion, representation and culture, audio-visual culture, animation, pop culture studies, and gender studies. For more information, please refer to the Program Introduction, Asian Link Research Center.

Credit Transfer Scheme

The credits earned at the host university are transferrable and can be regarded as equivalent to those awarded for completing the courses offered at the students’ home university. Similarly, the credits earned at the home university is also transferable to the host university. The credit transfer scheme enables students to fulfill the requirements for their degrees at both home and partner universities.

Learning through Dialogue

The program aims to facilitate meaningful co-learning (learning through dialogue) between international students from partner universities and Niigata University students and develop students' abilities to think interactively and view things from multiple perspectives.

DDP Partner Universities

Ocean University of China (Qingdao)

中国海洋大学(青島)

Dongguk University (Seoul)

*Exchange students are exempted from any fees associated with admission, registration, and tuition at the host university.
